The Irony Paradox

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who has been trying to get a girlfriend for the past few months. He was complaining to me how one could barely date anyone these days without having to prove to them that you have a good amount of money in your bank account first. He clearly was upset about it because he was broke.

But as a good friend, although I knew he had his priorities mixed up (he should be focusing on making money rather than getting a girlfriend), I gave him an insight that I've come to notice in today's dating world, or at least in the surrounding environment.

You see, the irony of the entire situation is that I've come to realize that during most talking stages with a lady, what determines how far that relationship and conversation would get all depends on a lady's perception about you. I've come to find out most ladies tend to ask poor guys for money to chase them away but then don't ask guys they perceive to be rich for money in order not to chase the guy away.

They have this mentality that if he's rich, they have to be on their best behavior around him because they know eventually they will get a taste of that money.

And it's an irony because the rich guys are the ones who are supposed to be getting those bills, but instead it's the other way around. And this is why I had told my friend that his appearance matters a lot; the way you smell matters, the clothes you wear, and all that.

Because most ladies wouldn't ask you how much you have in your bank account, they evaluate you based on what they can see at that moment. And sometimes, the only thing keeping you from being with the woman of your dreams is that extra five minutes to get to know you better, that extra five minutes that she most likely would give to you just because her perception about you doesn't tell her that you're a good-for-nothing, wretched young fellow.

And sometimes, that extra time is all you need for her to really get to know you and maybe realize that her focus on your bank account shouldn't be the topmost thing on the list, probably because you have a good personality, a nice sense of humor, or any of those things these kids are interested in nowadays.
