The Game
Dave and Eric friendship started during their school screening. They both had met at the screening office and had had this instant brotherly connection. The connection was so good that they had later decided to become roommates.
Three years later and they did almost everything together. Cooked together, attended lectures together, everyone who saw them thought they were biologically brothers. Everything was going on so well and that was why when a new girl moved in next door to them, they had decided to play a brotherly game of who gets her first.
They always played this game in the past with Eric always coming out victorious. But this time, Dave was determined to win. So the boys had put their plans in motion. They both were shy boys, so going to meet her face to face was out of the question, they were just going to wait till a moment presented itself and then they would grab it. The last girl they played such a game on had become friends with Eric after he offered to help her carry her water up the stairs.
For a week the boys watched and observed Esther and finally when the moment was right, they took their chances. Few days after that and they both became friends with Esther but Dave wasn’t happy with that, he wanted to be more than just friends. He was ready to go the extra mile to win this one, so Dave did what he never should have done, he opened his mouth and said terrible things about Eric to Esther, things a brother should never do to another brother.
It didn’t take Eric long to discover that something wasn’t right, the sudden distance between him and Esther made him suspect that something wasn’t right. At first, he thought she liked Dave more and that was the reason for the sudden change in character towards him but when he finally asked her and she told him why after much persuasion, Eric was shocked and disappointed.
Here he was, getting ready to congratulate his brother on winning this one not knowing that the person he called his brother had stabbed him in the back. Dave had told Esther about all the girls in the past they had played their game on, but what he didn’t do was tell her that they both were involved in the game. He only made it sound as if Eric was a casanova who enjoyed playing with girls heart. So Eric decided to make everything right, he too opened his mouth and talked but unlike Dave, he told her the whole truth.
When Eric was done, he could tell that there was no way Esther would want to be friends with any of them anymore and he liked it that way. Dave started the whole thing, it was only fair that he finished it.
