The Dress Tax
They say dress the way you want to be addressed, and they say it like it's always a good thing, but some times it's not.
You see, if there's one thing I've always made a priority in my life is to atleast look and smell good, irrespective of if I'm broke or not. And one mistake most people make is that they think that you have to wear expensive stuff all the time to look good, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes, you just have to take proper care of the clothes you already have and as long as they aren't torn or too old, you will look good in them, even if you have the least fashion sense.
So looking and smelling good has always been a top priority for me because ever since I started to take that seriously, I noticed how different people treat me, in a good way. That and coupled with the fact that I gained a little bit of weight and I no longer look as skinny as I looked back in the day.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, it all depends on how you see it), due to the way I look, dress and smell, people tend to want to take advantage of that a lot.
You see over here in Nigeria, it is a normal practice for someone to try to sell things a little bit higher than the usual price and then you have to bargain your way down and make sure you buy it for what you think is the normal selling price..that isn't something new.
But tell me why people keep constantly trying to add more prices on things I buy and services that are being offered to me, and then when I complain about it, they always all have the same thing to say...that I look like a big man and a big man like me would have no problem paying that amount.
It's crazy because recently, I went to this shop where they render a service by helping you to charge your gadgets whenever there is no power supply and I found out tonight that the guy there has been collecting extra money from me all this while, simply because he feels I can afford it and it wouldn't be a problem for me.
If this is what people mean by dress the way you want to be addressed, then I don't want to be addressed anymore. I seriously would like to be treated like everyone else and not get extorted anymore, all in the name that I look like someone who can afford it.
Lol this is a funny one, but it's annoying honestly, in Nigeria here they see the way you dress as a means of Billing you, you go market to buy stuff and you try to price, they will give you the higher price if you don't use your head, in fact you can also become a target of police,
No caping, police caught some of my guys because of the way they dress and the car the drive.
Just use your head and be Crazy sometimes
Exactly bro.. It's terrible and scary at the same time. Imagine a shy person going to the market to buy stuff, he basically would come back empty handed with all of his money gone because he was too shy to bargain the prices of the goods there... As for the police, that's a while issue on its own that every young guy is currently passing through.
Seller always try to get something extra from customers and that's normal. They judge customer by their dressing sense and the style of talking. So, if you want to buy things without paying extra, you need to be cautious.
Cautious and have a very good bargaining skill too.
