The Day I Got Used

I've always pride myself as someone capable of reading people to an extent to know when they're lying and when they're not. And most of the time, my readings has always come out correct and that is why I'm always one step ahead of my friends because sometimes when they lie to me, I make them believe that I bought their lies only for me to act in a completely different way that they thought I would act based on the lie they told me.

I must have had too much confidence on my ability to tell when my friends are lying to me that on this particular day, I thought I had read one of my friends very well, only to find out later on that I was played.

What had happened was that this friend of mine had been caught kissing another girl by his girlfriend. Well, she didn't really see him kissing her but she said she had seen something like that, hence the reason why she wasn't fighting with him yet, she had wanted to be sure that what she thought she had seen was indeed what she had seen.

The guy in question is a very good friend of mine so she had texted me instead and told me that my friend was cheating on her. This clearly was her way of bringing me into the whole thing because she knew how close we were, so I had approached my friend and asked him if he had indeed kissed the other girl. I had asked him this question not to scold him but just to know the truth of the matter so as to know how to defend him or help him beg his girlfriend.

He knew this too so I felt there was absolutely no reason for him to lie to me because I was going to take his side no matter what his response was, I was wrong. He had looked me in the eyes and sworn that he did nothing with that other girl. Of course I believed him because like I said, there was absolutely no reason for him to lie to me, this was two guys gossiping about two ladies, the bro code is always at its highest level during conversations like this.

Anyways, I had taken his answer for it and we had both gone to see his girlfriend and somehow I worked my magic and ten minutes later we were all laughing together, then I left.

Fast forward to later that night, I sat down with my friend outside where we usually sit, talking and relaxing when all of a sudden he brought up the issue again but this time, he told me that he had indeed done what his girlfriend had accused him of. He said this and started laughing like it was suppose to be cool and amusing, but there was nothing funny about this. I felt used and quickly told him how I felt. I told him that he knew I was going to have his back no matter what and he had no reason to lie to me.

He probably thought I was joking and continued laughing but when he saw the look on my face, he stopped and apologised. Now this usually would have been the part where I stood up and go snitch on his lying ass, but I didn't. He may have broken the bro code and lied to me but I wasn't going to do the same, I'm better than him.
