The Combo

Whenever someone asks me why I haven't changed my hostel to a far more better one during all this years, I always have one reply for them, I tell them it's because of the people in it. And today, I got reminded why I would always prefer to be the midst of this guys, than in a flashy hostel where everyone keeps to themselves.

You see, times are hard and I'm currently looking for ways to cut down on my expenses and save a lot more this year because I honestly wasn't impressed with the way I handled some of my finances last year, and if there's one thing I've come to realize that I do spend a lot on, it is food.

So earlier today, myself and the guys had all come together to do something we like to call The Combo. This basically is when some of us gather together to somehow prepare a meal that we all can eat, and we do this by individually contributing based on what we have either at home or in our pockets.

So basically, some people brought out cash, while some went into their rooms to bring out certain foodstuff and ingredients that they had. The good thing about the combo is that it helps us spend way less than we would have spent if we all had individually gone to get something to eat seperately, also, it helps us feed those who have neither money nor foodstuff.

How that works is that just like today, after we had gathered what we had and bought the ones we didn't have, we had prepared the meal but also gave some of it to people we knew didn't have anything on them, irrespective of the fact that they didn't contribute anything to the meal.

Thankfully enough, whenever we do the combo, we always have more than enough to go round for the selected number of people because everyone is happily bringing what they have to the table, so whenever we're done sharing amongst ourselves, we always make sure to give to those who initially weren't part of the combo or had no idea that something like that was even going on.

We did the combo twice today and that not only helped me save money (the total money I spent today was less than I would spend in a single meal on a normal day), it also helped feed a friend of mine who was having a bad day twice today and he was more than grateful.

He couldn't stop thanking everyone for the initiative and we all couldn't stop laughing because to us, doing something like that is a thing of joy. This, is one of the many reasons why I love this place.
