The Circle Of Life (a fictional story)

All his live, Yakubu had always dreaded this day, the day he knew he would be meeting his ancestors. When Yakubu was younger, he had asked his father why they had to succumb to such tradition, his father had given him the answer he now told his own kids..

“It's the circle of life”

Few days later, Yakubu's father had gone missing. Yakubu and the others had heard him scream out loud in pain and agony and then there was silence. And though the others wanted to run to him to help him from whatever it was that was causing him so much pain, they couldn't because they were all locked up in a cage.

Later that day, the bigger beast were seen jumping around and rejoicing, one of them had this huge red cloth on with a funny looking red and white cap and a huge white beard, it felt like they were mocking them for not being able to do nothing while their kind begged for mercy.

That was the last time Yakubu saw or heard from his father.

And now, it was his turn. He knew this because every other of his siblings that were older than him had been taken, and they always screamed in pain and agony. Yakubu looked at his beautiful children, he knew this was probably the last time he would be getting a good look at them as he would be taken away very early in the morning while they were still asleep, just like they have done others.

Early the next morning, even before any cock crowed, the bigger beast came for him. But Yakubu had refused to go down without a fight, so the moment his cage was opened, he jumped out and started running but the beast were prepared. They chased after him until he was cornered and caught. The whole commotion had woken up the others and so as Yakubu was been taken away to be slaughtered, he could hear his kids crying.

The cock struggled to get free but the beast grip was firm. Yakubu looked up at the man that held him and saw no remorse, this was indeed his end. And as the chicks sat in their cage wailing, they heard their father scream in pain and agony..
