The Bet

David tried to hold back the tears in his eyes as he watched Emily sadly walk away from him. He knew he had hurt her real bad and if she decided not to talk to him ever again, then he deserves it.

He never should have listened to the boys and carried on with their stupid game. “What had he been thinking?” David asked himself as he wiped his eyes with his handkerchief.

He couldn’t believe he was going to lose someone as good and innocent as Emily because of a stupid bet he had with his stupid friends. The same friends who had turned their back at him and told Emily everything.

The deal had been for him to make Emily for in love with him in the space of two weeks, a bet that had the power of making him a thousand dollar richer or poorer, depending on if he won it or not.

David had immediately gotten to work. He had met Emily at the schools cafeteria and had someone started a conversation with her. Ten minutes into the conversation and David could tell Emily was the sweet type, the kind of girl who wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“Easy peasy” David had said to himself as he knew it won’t take him long to have her eating from his palms. But as time went on, he started to grow a conscience. “It was cruel to just play with someone’s heart like that.” He thought to himself.

So David had gone to tell his friends that he no longer wanted to bet. A decision that had not gone down well with them.

“Are you in love with her?” They had asked him.

“That isn’t important. What’s important is doing the right thing and that is putting an end to this bet.” David had replied before walking away, but little did he know that his friends had other plans. They had all gone to tell Emily everything about the bet and as expected, it broke her.

And when Emily confronted David about it, he easily could have lied to her about the whole thing, but David felt it was best he told her the truth. Maybe this could be the start to a new beginning or the end to everything.

That's too bad, the percentage that Emily will back to Davis is low. Most women will not trust the men after playing with their feelings. Good luck with heartbreaks. lol

Touching and heartbreaking. Your story reminds of a movie i saw. I think the movie title was After. Yes, "After" but it was based on a novel.

I am glad David told the truth. Don't worry David she will come around. I'm sure she have forgiven you. Just give her sometimes.

Beautiful story bro and well written 💯❤

I am sure Emily isn't going to take it easy. However, the man should have kept his words. I think I have something on similar lines but in my case, all is lost! Maybe David is not as unlucky as Johnny is!

This story has a gentle arc, but it is strong nonetheless. The character grows, gains insight. That is the best kind of arc.

It's a cruel joke to play with people's feelings the way that bet was made.
Fortunately the lovers understood each other..., well written @prayzz
