The Beginning

You know I’ve told you guys how I found hive and all that but one thing I realized I’ve never really said here was how the struggle was back in the days when I and some Hivians I met on WhatsApp would run to hive everytime whenever we saw an opportunity to earn anything, even if it was a $1 upvote.

Back then, there was this whatsapp group which was dominated by Nigerians on hive (then steem). This was four years ago and back then it was easier to see an asteroid than to get an upvote on hive. I remember setting my ginabot back then to notify whenever some certain whales make a post, whales that I know upvote comments. The moment I got a notification, I would rush to the post and try to read as fast as I could in other to be able to drop a meaningful comment and not just the usual “nice post” comment which could earn me the opposite of what I wanted, a downvote.

I remember that by the time I was done reading, there would already be like fifty comments on that post and I would be wondering if this people even read the post at all or maybe they read it in advance, it felt like witchcraft.

But the truth was that back then I was using a 2g Samsung phone so before I would even open the link to the post, someone with a smarter phone will already have read it and was on the process of commenting.

And then there was the WhatsApp giveaway, giveaways that weren’t really worth anything but back then, it felt like millions to me. Some Nigerians who were fortunate to have discovered hive before us and had some little hp would host this giveaway from time to time which literally made them feel like kings and queens and because we needed what they were offering, we worshipped them.

Most of them already moved on by the way.

Thinking about all of that and how far I’ve come, it just really show how consistent I’ve been and how well it has really paid off. And though the struggle had been tough from the beginning, I know it can only get better from here.

I've also experienced the same thing, I even had to hold my cellphone while it was charging because the battery drained easily, even worse, but it was an experience that made me appreciate less fortunate people more, because I've even been in that position for a long time.

the sentence above makes me think back to my hard times!
