The Anxiety Loop

Worrying sometimes can cause more damage than the initial problem we were worrying about. So if you don't have a natural solution, don't go do something stupid because you just might make things worse.

When someone has a problem, the natural thing to do is think of ways to solve them, look for solutions and make certain moves in the direction that we feel would bring positive results.

And all of that is good, there's nothing wrong with looking for solutions to your problem, but sometimes, I've come to realize that while looking for those solutions, we end up making more mistakes, mistakes that are so bad that if we had stayed and did nothing in the first place, we probably would have had better results than now that we had gone to do something about it.

To better explain my point, I will tell you guys a story about a friend of mine who currently owe some loan apps and is struggling to pay back. You see, after spending all of his money on gambling, he found himself in a predicament where he didn't have any money for food.

So he began to panic and eventually went to one of these loan apps to loan some money. Being someone who's dumb, he decided to go back to the gambling site to recover his money and also hopefully have enough to pay back the loan people. Well, he ended up spending all of that money there too and by the time we all were saying goodnight and going to bed, he had no money on him.

Early the next morning, his dad had sent him some money without him requesting for it, something he wasn't expecting. Thankfully this time, he used the money right but then the damage had already been done and he was now in a far worse position than he was in earlier when he just started to get worried.

So basically, if he hadn't done something stupid (go borrow money and try to win it back), the problem he thought he had would have solved itself the next morning when his dad sent him that money.

Look, I'm not saying that you shouldn't worry when you have a problem, I'm saying that you shouldn't let that worry push you into doing something stupid. And also sometimes (depending on how serious the problem is), some of these things solve themselves with time.

I know some stuff about the excessive worrying part. I sometimes think about worst case scenarios too. Those are not pleasant. And oftentimes these same thoughts. Hold me back from doing a lot of things. Also just as simply live life as it is meant to be. Lorraine holds me back from doing different stuff. But now I'll try to remember all the time what Seneca said, we suffer more in imagination than in reality.

I do agree with you brother but also, I feel it is important to note that although worrying could hold us back from doing certain things, it's not entirely wise to ignore it all the time because some of those worries (depending on the situation) can be valid.

Yes, there is a fine line actually, often must be left to our better judgement

I think you that friend deserve to be worried all the time. He is gambler and he have no intention to leave it. I think, you can stop worrying about him because he is not worried about himself truly. Leave him with his own fate if he is not ready to change himself.

It's not exactly easy to turn a blind eye to someone suffering. Yes I agree that it's his own doing, but that doesn't make it easy. Sometimes I wish I can just ignore and walk away.
