The Agreement

The university is a place where we make decisions on our own without the help or knowledge of our parents, some of this decisions ends up making or breaking us in the nearest future.

I was in my second year in the university when I met Joy. Joy wasn't a student in our school, she had only come to spend some time with her sister who happens to stay in the same lodge with me. My story with Joy was a little bit strange due to the fact that we started making out a day after we talked for the first time.

Joy had confessed to me that she had a boyfriend in the north where she schooled but she needed to be with someone while she was here for the main time. She was basically asking me to be her friend with benefit, a request I had gladly accepted.

Two months into this new friendship, I noticed Joy wasn't willing to leave. It was like she had forgotten about her school in the north and it was all because of me. I spoke to her about the issue, reminding her that we were not a couple, just friends and that she had a boyfriend in the north who was patiently waiting for her return. I wasn't ready to have a girlfriend or be in any relationship yet. The only reason why I had agreed to such agreement was because I thought it was only going to be for some short period of time.

Joy finally traveled, not to the north but to her aunt's place and that was because she and her sister who was living in the same hostel as mine had fought but even at her aunt's place, she kept on calling and telling me about how much she loved me. I felt things were getting out of hand so I did the only thing I felt I could do, I broke up with her over the phone.

The break up had been a little bit messy. She had threatened to do a lot of things to me on the phone, things I had taken as empty threat because she was no longer in the same state with me.

Four months later and I had moved on. I now had a girlfriend whom I loved and made me happy. I was on my way back from school one sunny afternoon when I saw someone that almost made my heart stop, Joy was standing right in front of my door, waiting..
