Telling Lies

We all know lying is bad, it’s not a good thing and I’m not saying it’s bad because religion says so, no that’s not it. Lying is bad because it makes you untrustworthy. When you say things, people won’t be able to tell if it’s the truth or you’re just telling another lie, someone like me will most likely just take everything you say as a lie because that’s what you’re known for.

A couple of years ago, I remember lying almost everyday for no reason. I would lie about something and when that person believes everything I’ve said, I will tell them it was all a lie. It was more like an April fool thing to me and I enjoyed doing it everyday.

So one Thursday morning, I had gone to this midweek church service with my family and after the church service was over, my dad had asked me to go get him something from his car. On my way to his car, I saw something that scared the hell out of me, I saw a green snake laying carefully on the green grass that was beside the road I just walked past.

I had no idea how I was able to spot it because it blended very well in the grass but I did. After I walked past it, I started calling on my eldest brother and when he answered, I told him about the snake I had just seen, expecting him to grab a weapon and come kill it, but the young man just looked at me for a few seconds, probably wondering if this was another of my jokes before walking back into the church.

I waited, thinking he had gone to grab a weapon but after like two minutes of not seeing him, I realized that he probably felt I was lying and started calling him again. This time when he answered, I had to swear on everything I held sacred that there was indeed a snake in the grass and that I wasn’t lying. That was when he grabbed the shovel and was able to kill the snake with it.

After that experience, I made up my mind to never joke around like that anymore. Because what would happen to me if I needed help and called out to my family only for them to ignore me because they think I’m just being me and this is probably just another prank.
