Smelling Good

Back in the day, my dad would always complain about me not taking my bath at least twice a day, he would always say that when I do eventually go to school (the university) and people starts to stay away from me because of how bad I smell, then I would realize what I was doing to myself. Luckily for me, I didn't let it get to that level before I started doing the right thing.

I remember when I realized that I truly was starting to have some body odour was the time we all traveled to the village for the holidays and I had walked past my aunt who immediately told my mom to get me some body spray and I knew that was her indirectly telling her that I stink and I felt so embarrassed that I promised myself never to experience that again.

So I began to do everything right and lucky enough, I got better and now smell good. And now that I am in the university, whenever I come across people with really bad body odour, even I don't want to be close to them and everyday I thank my stars that I'm not in their shoes.

But then I do feel bad for these people, especially if they're someone I know because I've come to realize that unless you're family, people don't always tell you that you have a bad smell or mouth odour, they just endure till you leave and then avoid you the next time they see you.

And from experience, I've come to realize that they don't do that because they're wicked and don't like you, but because most people don't know the right words to use when trying to tell someone that they've got a bad smell, so they just choose to keep mute and probably let the next person you meet tell you, which probably would never happen because everyone is trying to not sound rude and so they all choose to mind their business.

I remember I used to have a female friend who had bad body odour but couldn't say anything to her and I tried because I had overheard someone telling someone else about my friend's body odour and I felt bad, but each time I tried summoning up courage to talk to her about it, I get scared and just decide not to and I never did.

And now, I currently know someone else with the same problem and I honestly do not want to not say anything to this person this time and that is why I'm bringing this here. What do you guys think is the most polite way to tell someone about the way they smell and probably offer solutions to help them get rid of the bad smell.

Please leave your comments below as they all will be appreciated.

On one occasion a friend at the gym told me about my body odor, before telling me he warned me not to be ashamed because it was something normal and he was telling me for my own good but it was inevitable the embarrassment, I remember that it had been because of a pirate product sold in my country and that obviously turned out to be of poor quality so since then I have tried to clean myself properly and avoid using poor quality products. I feel that it is inevitable to embarrass someone by telling them that they smell bad but as you said it is a good way to show importance to someone by advising them about their body odor, so although it depends a lot on how you say it, the intention should also be taken into account. It was nice for me to read you and I send you greetings and good wishes from Venezuela:)

Wow.. So I guess at the end of the day, no matter how I try to make my words sound nice while telling them about the body odor, they still would feel embarrassed and probably even get upset with me. That's tough.

Anyways, thank you for reading and I appreciate your wonderful feedback🙂.

This is actually funny but I guess it has happened to a lot of us at some point in our lives
It happened to me too. The body will surely have its odor which makes body odor normal but taking care of it is what we should work on

I don't think body odor should be seen as a normal thing since it can be prevented. We just have to pay more attention to the way we smell.

I just say them whispering into their ear that bad smell coming. But with a cool voice. So they don't feel humiliated.
