Shy Lover

Sometimes, I often wonder how people do it. How do you walk up to a total stranger and strike a conversation with her with the intention of courting her, how??

One good thing about freshman year is that you get to meet new people who had just been given admission into college. I was in my final year already, yet I get that same excitement during every freshman year.

Seeing how excited I get, one would think I get the girls but the reverse was the case. I had been single for over four years, not because I was getting turned but because I couldn't summon the courage to walk up to a lady and actually start a conversation. My ex had actually made everything for me, she had approached me her self and told me how she felt towards me.

"Well today wasn't going to be like the other days" I said to myself as I stood right in front of Benita's door, waiting for some ancestral powers of some sort to give me the courage to actually knock.

Benita was one of those freshman who had moved into the same hostel where I lived. I had fallen in love the moment I saw her and I had always imagined what being friends with her would be like but three months and counting, I still haven't said hi but all that was about to end.

Gently and slowly I raised my hand. It felt like I was mixing chemicals in a science lab and one mistake could make the whole place go kaboom, so I had to be careful and precise "Three knocks, nothing more." I said to my self as my knuckles made contact with her door.

“Yeah? It's open" I heard her angelic voice at the other side of the door.

“Hi, sorry for disturbing you but my friends and I were playing this game and I was dared to come talk to you for like five minutes.” I said all in one breath. One could tell that I had rehearsed that line a countless times but I couldn't careless especially when I realized that she actually bought or pretended to.

I don't recall what we talked about but what I do remember was that after my five minutes was over, I walked out of that room feeling like a whole different person.
