Should The Price Matter?

Should the price matter? It is a question I've been asking myself for the past couple of minutes, ever since I realized that I just may have been cheated out of something.

Two days ago, I bought a perfume from one of my perfume vendors. I usually buy the bigger size of that exact same perfume, but that day, I had bought the smaller size because I didn't have enough money to get the size I usually get. When I asked for the price of it, the man mentioned a price that I felt was a bit too much. You see, my logic when buying the perfume was that the smaller one would be half the price of the bigger one.

So I had automatically told him I was going to pay that price because I felt that was right. But then I became suspicious of the whole price when he agreed immediately. So today, I had gone to another shop where I also occasionally buy perfume and had asked the lady for the price of that same perfume, same size, only to find out that it was a bit cheaper compared to the one I had bought earlier.

But funny enough, I didn't feel any kind of way about it, maybe because the price difference wasn't much or because I feel like the price of a product or service shouldn't matter if that product or service gives you exactly what you want, which brings me to my question.

If you're satisfied with the product or services rendered to you, should the price paid for those services matter a lot, especially if you find out you were being charged exorbitantly?

This question is important because, in my case, I'm quite happy with the perfume that I bought; it gives me everything that is expected of it and from it. Shouldn't that be more essential (and be the topmost priority) than everything else? Getting what we paid for, that is.

Or should that not be a good enough excuse? Because come to think of it, I genuinely don't think I would have felt happy about the entire situation if the price difference had been much, because then I would have felt really cheated.

I guess at the end of the day, to put my question in a much simpler term, should the value of a service rendered be determined by the quality, or should the prices remain the same, regardless of the difference in quality?
