Selective Knowledge

If there's one thing I've come to understand, it is that it can be very hard to unlearn certain things that we already know, so if you know you have no plans of doing something (especially if it's something you consider bad), then don't even try to learn it in the first place, only to want to unlearn it later because it can be difficult, especially if it's something you enjoy.

A good example of one of those things is smoking. You see, it still amazes me till this day how I still don't smoke, even though I've been in a room where almost everyone in it was smoking. And trust me when I say that it's not because I couldn't afford to buy it, because I didn't have to. If there's a time people tend to be the most generous, it is when they're smoking weed..and I don't really understand it but they're always willing to pass it around to everyone in the room.

Anyways, the reason why it amazes me is because I've heard people say a lot good stuff about how nice getting high off of weed makes you feel, and how it puts you in a good mood and all that, basically making it sound like paradise. And yes, I won't lie to you, there have been times where I've thought about taking a single drag and just experiencing how it feels for the first time, even if it's just once.

But thankfully I've been able to overcome those temptations and said no to it, not because I feel that the guys are exaggerating about the good feeling it brings and all that, but because I know that if it truly turns out to be as good as they say, that first drag would be the first of many, because as humans, if something makes us feel good, we'd want more of it..and before you know it, I'd be just like those guys, passing the blunt around.

So yeah, if you know you have no plans of doing that stuff (whatever it may be) consistently, you have no business trying it out for the first time, because contrary to what many people say, you don't always have to taste something first to know if you'd like it or not. Sometimes we can tell if that thing would be good for us just by looking at it.

But just in case you've already gotten past the tasting stage and you're finding it hard to leave, do remember that I said it can be hard, but not impossible.

I think I can understand your post quite well because I also gone through the similar situation. It seems both of us are quite determined about not to smoke and nothing can force us to do so.

That, and many other things too.. And trust me when I say that I'm very proud of myself for being able to resist.
