Right or Wrong?
If there's one thing I've come to notice, it is that most people mistake the fact that just because something is now widely accepted makes it right. When in reality, it's just this world messing things up as usual and things not being seen in the right way.
Earlier this evening, a friend of mine paid me a visit, and on his way back home, we spotted the bar where they sell all sorts of drinks and also pepper soup (a very spicy water soup with fish or meats in it).
Seeing how the evening was still young and none of us were in a hurry to go home, he had suggested we go in there to stay a while, which I agreed to. When we sat down, we were approached by a waitress, and as usual, I had made sure to first ask the price of everything before making my order.
I do this mainly because places like this don't have menus, and unless you ask the prices, you might end up buying something way more expensive than what you had in mind.
We had both stayed there for about an hour before we decided it was time to leave. So we called the waitress and asked her for the total so that we could pay and leave. Mind you, we already knew how much the total was because we were aware of the prices of everything at that table, but while she brought out her calculator to do the calculation again, we found out that some of the prices she had told us earlier weren't the real prices.
When we first arrived, she had added some extra amount to the prices of stuff and must have forgotten later when she was rounding up the total. And I know this because I had mentioned to my friend after she had first told us those prices that she didn't look like someone who was confident about what she was saying, almost like she was trying to keep her voice down to avoid the people at the next table overhearing her.
We eventually paid her without saying a word and left, but even as we were leaving, I could tell that aside from the tip we gave to her, she also made some more money on one or two items on that table because some of those prices felt random and not the usual price we pay for those things.
But luckily for her, none of us said anything or requested the manager because it wasn't one of those days for us where we would have requested to speak to someone else and find out the truth. Personally, I'm cool with giving away some extra cash; I just feel like I was extorted.
Which brings me to my question. Is doing something like what the waitress does right or wrong? Because this isn't the first time it has happened to me. Fortunately for me, I caught on the last time and refused to pay the extra cash added to the item.
People makes mistakes and it's ok sometimes let it go when you are not receiving a huge blow. As long as you paid the price for the food you ate it's ok but paying extra for no reason is not ok. So, I think you guys did the right thing and didn't make things difficult for her as it was unintentional mistake.
