PTSD in Uniform

Earlier today I had stepped out of my home to go visit a friend just so I could borrow his wireless microphone in order to make a video with it and then on my way back, that was when I saw them, the men in black.

Last friday, my lecturer had given us an unexpected assignment, he had instructed every one of us to go create a tiktok account if we didn't already have one, and then create a content to get at least a thousand views within a week. It was an assignment that seemed like an interesting challenge and so I was excited to participate in it.

The plan had been to go get the mic and then go to school with a another friend of mine to try and create something, anything. So we had stepped out and gone to get the mic but on our way back from my friends place where I went to get the mic, my friend and I spotted a man dressed in black standing right next to a minivan.

Minivans like this are what police officers use as undercover whenever they're in the mood to arrest innocent civilians. They always try to fit in as much people as they can in that tiny space because the more people they get, the more bail money they receive. Sighting this man on black with his ak47 that had more than three magazines wrapped together sent shivers down my spine and all of a sudden I felt like I was in danger.

Two days ago, a friend of mine who recently just got out of police detention had told me stories of how he had been starved and tortured at the police cell for three days and how he had seen people who came to bail other people out get arrested, unless you were a female. So the whole story was still fresh in my mind and all of a sudden I felt like I needed to hide.

My friend and I immediately took another route in other to avoid them but the bad news was that no matter what route we took, there was a junction where all of the roads meet and unless we got there before these officers, we might end up getting arrested and detained for commiting no offence. So with that in mind, I had pulled out my phone and called my friend (the one I had gone to his house to borrow the mic) and told him of our situation.

I had told him that if he doesn't hear from me in an hour, then he should know that I've been arrested. That was the only thing I felt I could do at that moment, at least my people will know where to start looking for me.

After the call, my friend and I had decided to risk it and just walk really fast. We would have ran, but we didn't want to draw any attention to ourselves, so we opted to walk really fast and as we walked, young guys on motorcycles were stopping to ask us if we saw the police men up ahead so that they could also change their route.

Luckily for us, we were able to get to our location safely and were able to make a couple of videos, although I haven't made up my mind on what to post yet, I believe this is my first step in really taking this content creation thing serious.

The assignment to make tiktok video is quite interesting and It's unique also.
Police is the friend of the public. Why need to be afraid of it? They just want the opportunity to make you satisfied and invite you to jail. Because of the good hospitality, people give them money🤣🤣🤣.

Hehe. you were lucky that day. 🤣

whenever they're in the mood to arrest innocent civilians.

I cracked up here. But that's the truth. Somehow they can tell the good and bad guys apart but they'd rather arrest the innocent.

The person you and your friend saw may not have been an officer but then, the fear of the police and their ruthlessness....😀😀

I doubt that.. Looks can be deceiving and so they shouldn't arrest someone based off of looks alone.

Naahh we were sure of what we saw. Even saw their guns and all that.. That person was for a fact, a police officer or pretending to be one.

I don't mean by physical appearance. People no longer judge others by their outlooks, do they?
But I know that Officers have this eye of detecting when a person is in the wrong.
They just often dehumanize innocent citizens especially when they fail to express their right.
Those people are smart in some funny way.

I don't know when Nigerian police will stop these dirty acts they indulge in because it's sad to know that after everything that happened during end sars, nothing has changed.

I am glad they didn't challenge you guys and hope you get the video done. You can share the link in Discord so that we can get you more views and likes as well.

I doubt any of this will be ending anytime soon.. We all just have to be careful.

You can share the link in Discord so that we can get you more views and likes as well.

Yeah that's true.. I wonder why I never really thought of that 😅
