People Will Always be People

It's no news about how bad electricity and power supply is over here and as we all know, no power supply equals to no water supply either. So the only alternative for most of us over here is to go buy water outside. This really isn't shocking to me because unlike the city where I lived with my family and have all of that, I currently stay in a village which is basically where my school is located, so no light and no water is basically just village 101 over here.

Anyways, I had once spoken about an elderly lady who sells water down the street and how she had a competitor who sells way cheaper than she does and due to that reason, a lot of people always go buy from her competition, leaving her with no customers. To be fair, her price for each gallon of water was way too expensive (more than times 2 the price of what the other people were selling) but due to her age and me being a sympathetic person, I had ignored the huge price gap and continued to buy from this elderly lady.

But having just me and some few other customers obviously wouldn't do the job for her, so she eventually had to succumb and do the one thing I expected her to do a long time ago, she reduced her prices, not by a lot but just enough for other people to consider buying at her place every now and then, although the other guys price was still way better and avoidable than hers. She continued with this price for about a month and as usual, I always made sure to get water from her whenever I wanted water. But something happened today that made me a little bit disappointed and made me feel like I had chosen the wrong person to be loyal to.

I had gone to her place this evening to get some water but then just as I was about to pay for the water, she called my name and told me that the price has changed, she has gone back to her "normal price" the same price that wasn't giving her a lot of customers few months back.

I was surprised and had thought to myself that maybe the other guys had increased their prices too, giving her the morale she needed to increase hers but then I discovered that wasn't the case. It turned out that the other guys, her competitors, were having a little bit of trouble with their pumping machine and they weren't expected to have water to sell anytime soon. They were even now coming to the old lady's place to buy water from her that they can use themselves, thus giving her all the power.

The moment I got this information, it all started to make sense to me. She had increased her prices because she no longer had any competitors and was now the number one bestseller of water on the street. Like I said, I felt a little bit disappointed she took that route but if we're being honest, this is business and everyone is just looking for ways to make more money and most of them don't care how they do it.

Unfortunately I can't do anything about it because like I said, she's the only one selling at the moment, so getting angry at her and not choosing to buy from her would mean me choosing not to have water to take my bath or do anything.. That would be crazy.

haha I would've just gone for the cheaper. if it's something like water why even bother being loyal. For me I don't see any reason to be loyal to a product but for a service I can understand like if you gonna get a haircut u have to go to somebody u can trust to do a nice haircut for u or maybe a dentist. or maybe people arent loyal for these kinds of jobs but personally i tend to go to the same salon or dentist for these O.O. For water or food theres so many options lol fuq being loyal

You know what, now that I do think about it, I think you're right.. But you see the problem with this lady is that if she sees you walking past her place to go buy at somewhere else, she would call you to come buy at her place. And I happen to be someone who tries to have a lot of respect for the elderlies, so when she does that, I tend to stop and buy from her.

Haha well is there only one path or u could have another path that avoids her 👀. Nothing wrong with having respect for the elderly. You can always politely decline her request to shop at her place. Obviously she asked you to shop at her place. Won't most people do that to increase their sales haha. This just means she's good with sales as you can see she even raise the price rip. she's a true business person.

Just imagine it was an elderly person trying to sell u something u don't need but they kept insisting u buy it. You gotta stand your grind I feel.

Yeah I get your point. Unfortunately she's the only one selling for now.. So I guess I'm stuck with her until the other guys get back on their feet.

Here is a city in our country, Karachi, which is the largest city in terms of population and also the largest city in terms of business, and the people there do not get metered water and they are forced to buy water by investing money. are because life cannot pass without water, if a person drinks dirty water, he becomes ill.

I can remember once you said about the lady. I think those people who try to do business only consider about their profit and the lady was not different. So I think we should not need to show loyalty because at the end they actually don't think about us.

Exactly my thought too.. That is why I'm disappointed because I honestly thought she was different.
