Not My Wish

As the police drove away in their van, Ayo knew he was never going to know what freedom feels like ever again. Heaven knows he never wanted this life for himself, all he had ever wanted was to graduate and become a successful engineer and not at the back of a police van being taken away till God knows when.

Ayo was sixteen when he gained admission into the university. His parents had been so proud of him because he was the first person to be going to the university at such a young age. The young Ayo had been all smiles as his parents and siblings waved him goodbye while his bus drove away. He had fantasized a lot about this day and couldn’t wait to see and feel it for real.

But things took a turn for worse after one month in the university when Ayo realized that the one friend he had made in school then was a cultist who wanted him to be a member of their cult. He had no idea that the only reason Dele had been nice to him all along was because he had been marked as one of the new members of the fraternity.

When Dele finally opened up to Ayo, the latter had been shocked and refused immediately. He had also told Dele that he wanted nothing to do with him or his so called fraternity and had thought that was the end of it all until two days later when he got an unwanted visitor.

Ayo had been getting ready for school when he heard a knock on his door. If he had known how much his life would change the moment he opened that door, he probably would have gone out through the back door and never returned.

Guys with all sort of weapons had walked into Ayo’s room that day, threatening to end his life if he refused to become a member of their fraternity. The sixteen years old Ayo almost shit his pants as he promised to be at the location where he would be initiated as a member.

All of that was two years ago, now Ayo was fast rising up the ranks. The little Ayo his parents sent to school two years ago was no longer in existence. The Ayo everyone now knew was a very brutal guy who never forgives anyone that crosses him and that was why when he heard that some random guy was trying to woo a girl he called “his woman” he had not thought twice about it before going over to the guys place with his friends and beating him, a beating that had later resulted to the death of the young man, the young man who was the son of the state’s commissioner of police.

Of course Ayo had no idea who the guy was, who his father was. He had just wanted to pass a message through him and now that message was about to end his life. The case had later been investigated and it didn’t take long before the police knew who were responsible, the same girl Ayo had killed a guy for had been the one who ratted him out to the police. And though he tried to run, he was too late. The police caught him before he could escape and now he was headed for prison, if not worse.

Nice story...i had a coursemate who was been pressured to join a fraternity. Fortunate for him, he was able to find his way around the pressure. I guess not everyone has what it takes to resist these men of the underworld. It never ends well for most people who join these groups.

Yup, most people end up joining them after receiving death threats. Only the lucky ones escape.
