No Mercy from Mercy

You know, I’ve actually sat and pondered on who my first love was. I tried to think about the first girl I actually had feelings for and unfortunately, my mind had only been able to travel back to my secondary school days, to a girl whose name is Blessing. Blessing and I had had a thing for each other but Cupid never really gave us the chance to enjoy it even though I was young and shouldn’t even be thinking about anything concerning the opposite sex then.

Anyways, when I saw today’s topic for the Hive Learners featured content, I had revisited the question about my first love and somehow my brain had managed to travel past my secondary school days and went as far back as my primary school days and that was when I remembered her name, Mercy.

You see, growing up, whenever I saw a cute girl, I would ask myself what being her boyfriend would feel like. It was almost as if I was fantasizing about being their boyfriend for the first two seconds when I see them and then forget about it when they walk past me. Of course back then all my little brain knew about being a boyfriend was that we would both belong to each other, holding hands and no guy would be able to talk to her again because I was her man. So you see, I wanted to be Mercy’s man.

Unfortunately, it turned out Mercy had a crush on my very close friend whose name is Arinze. You see, I can beat my chest that I was more good-looking than Arinze but Arinze was the class comedian, everything he said was funny, Kevin Hart had nothing on this kid and for some weird reasons, the ladies are somehow always attracted to the funny guy.

When I found out about her feelings for him, I went to him and told him about it. I asked him if he felt the same way and Arinze had looked me in my eyes and told me that he felt nothing for her, if only the little me then knew that little Arinze was a lying bitch.

I had happily walked over to Mercy’s seat to give her the good news, Arinze wasn’t into her, maybe she would finally give me a chance. But then it turned out that Mercy had been seeing too many love movies at the time because that is the only reasonable explanation I could think of when she finally responded to my good news, she had said “If he doesn’t like me, it’s fine. But I like him and nothing will change that”

Her response had broken my heart. It felt like Diego just told Dora that he no longer wanted to explore. I remember consoling myself and just moving on. My first love had broken my heart and we weren’t even dating yet.

Few days later, I saw the two of them holding hands.
