Minding Your Business

Minding Your Business is cool, until you're the one who needs help.

For a while now I've sort of just been focused on me and things that concerns mostly just me and this is simply because I've find minding my business and focusing on myself to be a lot more peaceful and also prevents unnecessary insults or embarrassments from other people.

Unfortunately, I've come to realize that it's not all situations that we should ignore simply because we're all trying to mind our business, and that is because the moment we all start doing that, we might not know it but we might be creating a big problem for ourselves.

A couple of days ago, a female friend of mine who had gone to the market to get some stuff got robbed and everything she had on her was taken, this included her phone, purse and even the money she needed to transport her way back home. She ended up begging a passerby for some money in other for her to get back home.

But you see, the scary thing wasn't that she got robbed, it was that she got robbed in broad daylight in the presence of other people. According to her, while the guys (there were two of them) were robbing her with their knives, there were people who walked past them who saw the whole thing, even the knives and yet none of them stopped to go to her rescue. They all just kept on walking probably because it was none of their business.

What's even more scary is that these guys (the robbers) now know that no one will stop to come to your rescue, so they now boldly do whatever they want to do without the fear of getting caught or arrested,that to me is very very scary.

And I know that to those passer-by, they would rather mind their business and focus on where they're going than risk getting stabbed for someone else, someone they don't even know, but one thing they do have to ask themselves is what happens if they're the ones in that situation tomorrow? How would they feel watching all of those people walk past them, no one coming to help them while they got robbed off of everything they have on them in broad daylight.

Trust me when I say they'd wish they had helped the previous person because if they had, then probably there wouldn't had been any more robbers on the street because they had all been arrested. So yeah, maybe minding your business might be cool and all but it doesn't have to be in all situations, sometimes there are some things we might see and have to call someone else for help if we can't handle it ourselves, just don't keep quiet and ignore.

You could be saving someone's life.
