Love and Happiness

A friend of mine was telling me about how his internet data subscription no longer last like it used to, so I had asked him how much subscription he does, only for him to tell me that he always subscribes with hundred naira (N100) and uses it for at least two days. What he said came as a shock to me because over here in Nigeria, N100 subscription is the least amount of subscription one can do and I honestly don't think it should be called a subscription because it's about thirteen cents (if not lower) and if you have a really good internet connection, it won't last ten minutes before being exhausted.

So I decided to do a one thousand naira subscription for him, which was ten times the normal subscription that he does, just put of the kindness of my heart. And honestly I didn't think much about it but the amount of appreciation I got from him was way more than I had expected. To me, the one thousand naira subscription was also little compared to the amount I do on my phone every two weeks but him thanking me in such a way made me realize that there are certain things that we see as nothing but means everything to the next person.

So I had picked up my phone and decided to randomly send a female friend one thousand naira, not as airtime or data but cash that can be withdraw from the bank or ATM machine. I had sent her that money and texted her on WhatsApp, telling her about the bank transfer and just like the first guy, I got the same reaction from her too. She literally was praying for me while thanking me.

Now this really isn't something new that I'm just discovering for the first time, I know a lot of people are going through a lot and they really can't afford a lot of things some of us are privileged to afford easily, but I was so busy looking far away at strangers that I don't know that I forgot to look at the people close to me, the people I call my friends and I'm not going to lie, it made me feel bad.

Which is why I have decided that in this season of love, I will try to focus more on the people around me and be more conscious about certain things, so that I can always help out in any way that I can without them having to ask me for help. I believe that Christmas should be all about that too because at the end of the day, we're all sharing some love and happiness amongst ourselves.
