Learning something new

Back in the day, I never really thought about learning how to swim until I started going out with my friends and noticed that a lot of them could swim. It made me feel useless, like I had spent my time learning irrelevant stuff when I should be learning how to swim.

Funny enough, I now feel the same way when it comes to driving. You see, unlike swimming that you could learn at any age, even as small as when you're four years, I've always seen driving as a big boy thing because by law, you had to get to a certain age to learn how to drive. So I never really bothered about it when growing up because I wasn't old enough.

But time came and went and when I eventually got to that age, I didn't even realize it. Learning how to drive was so far away from my mind that it didn't feel like a basic skill that I needed to learn. Unfortunately, my dad didn't help matters either because I guess, he too didn't see it as something that was necessary, especially due to the fact that he didn't learn how to drive until he got his first car.

Which is kind of understandable (a little bit) to be honest..becauee why learn how to drive when you can't even afford your next meal, talk more of owning a car. But then we forget that you don't have to own a car, to drive a car. You could get a job opportunity that could require you to know how to drive, then what do you do?

I've been thinking about this the whole of today and I'm almost making up my mind to go register at a driving school. Because even though I don't own a car yet, my dad does and I don't think it will be cool for myself and my siblings to all be in the back seat while my old man drives us to church or where ever, when we come to visit.

I actually can't wait to see the surprise look on his face when I eventually go home and ask him to give me his car keys so that I could drive him around.
