Keeping to my words

(Edited)

Back in the day when having a phone used to be a huge deal among kids, I had gone to make some sort of deal with my dad that I ended regretting but learning a lot from it.

One evening, I had locked away my phone at my dad's drawer and had gone to tell him about it because I was proud of the decision I had taken. I had told my old man that for the next three day, I didn't want to touch my phone, and although I had said all of that as a joke, he made sure I kept to my words.

You see, usually my dad wouldn't care about what I said because he knew those were words coming from a little kid but just because he wanted to teach me a valuable lesson on what it means on keeping to one's word, especially as a man, so he made sure I really didn't touch that phone for the next three days and that was the worse three days of my life.

I still remember how tough and annoying the whole thing felt. Maybe he didn't know this back then, but that whole situation has been engraved in my mind for years now, because it taught me some very important lessons. It taught me that as a man, if there's one thing you shouldn't joke with, then it's your words.

Anyways, it was during these kinds of moments that I have learnt to train myself in doing what's right. Because I understand the importance of having your words heard and believe me when I say that I make sure not to joke with mine at all time.

Back in the day I used to be that kid who liked to play and would always joke and play with everything, no matter how serious that thing was. Until this particular day when I had seen a snake in the grass and yet no one believed me.

Luckily for me, one of the guys had finally gotten up to help investigate and eventually killed the snake, that whole experience taught me about the importance of being trustworthy because it is only when you're trustworthy that people would still act on your command no matter how crazy it sounds.

Now, I don't even see the need of lying to anyone, not even as a friendly joke. And that is why if there's one thing I make sure I never forget, it's the kind of person I am, and I never forget that by making sure I keep to my words, no matter what.

It's either I keep to it, or I don't give you my word in the first place.

For someone that keeps to his words, it helps people build their trust in you because they know that no matter what, this person will always be truthful

Yeah and that is exactly what has been happening. People opening up to me because they know I'm trustworthy.

Keeping words is very important and it increases the value of us. In case of giving words to others we need to be careful otherwise it will backfire to us.

Yeah that's true. I try to give out as little information as possible, especially when it concerns my personal life.
