I Don't Care Anymore
You know how there's a point you get to and then all of a sudden you no longer care about the consequences of your actions, I got to that point today and trust me when I say that for someone who likes to follow the rules and do things by the book, it sure felt amazing not giving a shit. And the bad thing about having this kind of feeling is that it feels like a drug, one you get addicted to and I know for a fact that this new character isn't one I want to get addicted to.
I had once written about how stressful my Saturdays always is and this is mostly due to the weekly sanitation that I happen to be in charge of every saturday. Well just like every other saturday, today wasn't going to be any different, or that was what I thought until I left my room around 6am this morning.
So up until last week, the routine has always been me leaving my room by 6am while shouting at the top of my voice, instructing everyone to wake up and come participate in the sanitation. Now this isn't how it's been done in other hostels. The people in other hostels know to wake up early to begin sanitation but for some messed up reasons, the people in my hostel are lazy and prefer to have their doors kicked down like I'm SWAT before they get up to clean up.
So I made up my mind to stop doing that and so last week, the number of people who got up for the clean up wasn't up to the expected number and I wasn't surprised, I was actually impressed some people got up without me having to yell out their names. This week though was completely different.
I had woken up a little bit late, around fifteen minutes past six thinking that I was late, only to come out of my room to find out that everyone was still asleep. Sticking to my plan of not yelling out, I decided to wait a couple of more minutes outside, kinda like giving them a second chance.
After waiting and no one showed up, I did what I've never done before, I went back to bed. I was more than done at this point and I no longer gave a shit, so I slept only to wake up around 10am to find out that some guys actually ended up cleaning the place up.
It was a bitter-sweet moment for me, it was sweet because the whole place was looking good and clean and it was bitter because I actually wanted the place to be as dirty as possible so when the right authorities or the Caretaker comes around, he would see for himself the mess happening in the hostel.
Anyways, I plan on keeping things this way until new officials are elected and things go back to the way it used to be. So I guess for now, everyone has to get used to the I don't care Prayzz.
Wait. Students do general cleaning every Saturday at your hostel?
Wow. Nobody in any of the hostels I knew back at school cared enough to come out and clean the place. Everyone just sticks to keeping their own room tidy. This is an interesting find.
Yeah it's sort of like a rule here, every Saturday or at least two Saturdays a month are set aside for sanitation..

Around here, the only way a landlord will be able to impose something like that on students is if the landlord lives in the hostel. But even with that, it’s still going to be difficult to achieve. You guys are doing well.
In one of the hostels I’ve stayed in, the landlady almost went to war with one of the students because the hostel’s cleaner came and cleaned the hostel but didn’t sweep the compound. When the girl approached the landlady about it, the landlady suggested she could just sweep it herself and it turned into a long talk. The student started going on about “If it were an MP(member of parliament’s) child, would she have been able to tell her that”. Lol trust me when I tell you it was both funny and embarrassing watching the drama from unfold from my room’s window.😂

Over here, there's this unwritten rule that just instructs everyone to clean up their environment every Saturday.. It was like that when I first gained admission and it's still the same now. Every other hostel do it too.

Had someone that does this back then when I still staying in the hostel. People hardly turn up, me number one. How you guys expect someone to wake up by 6am for sanitation sounds crazy bro. E no fit be me, lol.

It's actually an hostel rule and it happens just once a week. If you can't wake up early once a week to clean your environment then it's really sad.. You won't be saying the same thing if someone asked you to wake up by 4am to recieve money from him, you probably won't even go to bed and just stay up till its 4am. It's just priorities and I really do think that cleanliness should be a top priority.
That means there exist some students also who knows what is their responsibility. That's good.

you aren't a SWAT member, you're a student just like them. They ought to be fully responsible and not you yelling or banging doors for them to come out.
