Having the Right Connections
A while back, I wrote about some basic life survival skills that I've never really thought of learning that could turn out to be really helpful in certain situations.
Well, it turned out that depending on where you live and the situation you find yourself in, there is another important thing you need to know, especially when you live in a country like mine.
Now, it's not like I enjoy saying this bad things about my country (trust me when I say that not everything is bad here I'm just mainly focused on that aspect), just that ever since I moved to the state that I'm currently living in, I've seen and heard a lot of things that sent shivers down my spine.
Sometime last year December, a close friend of mine was arrested in his home for something he knew nothing about, and after spending a night there, the only reason he came out of it was because another friend of ours knew someone in a higher position in the country that he had called and help secure his release.
Which brings me to the skill I was talking about. Well, it's not necessarily a skill, but just for your safety, especially as a young man, make sure to have the contact of either someone in the force (a policeman, military man, etc.), someone in government, or just someone with lots of connections, all of which I do not have, which makes my day-to-day activity here a lot harder to do.
Just today, three guys were arrested right in front of me, and they didn't even do anything. The officers just cornered the boys, jumped out of their vehicle, and aggressively asked the boys to enter their vehicle before speeding off.
The whole thing looked like a kidnapping to me because, other than the uniforms these people had on, there was nothing to identify them as officers of the law…they weren't even using their official vehicles.
I immediately began to go through my contacts to see if I had anyone to call if I found myself in a situation like that, because with each passing day that goes by, it just feels like these people keep getting closer to me… And although I do not wish for it, a day might come where I could find myself being the one forced into one of those vehicles.
Although I do not pray for that.
Hmm. I can understand the situation. Connections are kind of necessary in your country and I just hope someday you will be able to use it to protect you.
