Getting Addicted

Today’s contest topic is an interesting one. Do we think that game addiction is a good thing even if we make money from the games? But before I tell you guys what I think, here’s something I do know.

I’ve seen movies where kids get violent when their video games are taken away from them and yes, I know we might argue that movies aren’t real but we should also know that some of the movies are written based on things that the writer has seen or heard about.

Do I feel addiction to video games are bad? Yes I do. I think addiction to anything is bad, even addiction to success. I know it may sound somehow but I think it’s better to be hungry for success than to be addicted to it. I say this because addiction is something we can’t control, it controls us and when we don’t get our desired results, we may end up doing some pretty stupid stuff that may end up getting us in trouble.

So irrespective of the fact that you’re getting paid as a gamer, you really shouldn’t be addicted to it because during the long run it’s going to go bad for you.

The funny thing is that as a Nigerian, I’m not even worried about getting addicted to video games because you can’t. There are a lot of things that will hinder that from happening. The first obstacle are your parents, Nigerian parents will beat the shit out of you but if somehow you happen to have parents who really don’t mind their kid spending hours in front of their computer playing call of duty or some other game, another thing that will hinder you for sure is the power supply in the country.

The power supply over here is shit and gives no room for anyone to be an addictive gamer unless you’re filthy rich and then you’re fucked (pardon my French) because at the end, nothing good comes out of being addicted to something.

Addiction could have a negative impact on one no matter how good it might look.
Thanks for this opener.

Haha..There are so many things that can go against being addicted to games as a Nigerian. Yet, there are still many that are addicted to them; talk about COD.

And I totally agree with you in addiction being bad, regardless of what it is, even success. Addiction basically means you are no longer in control, and that is unhealthy.

The moment the human mind loses control over its though processes over something, it is basically degrading somehow.
