Forming An Habit

Habits is something that can easily be formed or could take a while, it all just depends on the exact habit, if it's something you enjoy or something you have to discipline yourself to enjoy.

From my personal experience, I've come to realize that bad habits are quite easy to form, compared to good ones. And I believe that this is probably because most bad habits are usually fun stuff to do, while the good habits are those ones that we don't want to do, but have to do in order to better our lives in some way.

A good example was when I was learning UI/UX designs. I had told myself at the time that I was going to dedicate at least three hours of my time every day towards learning and practising, and although I tried that for a while, I found myself struggling consistently to keep to the time until unfortunately, I eventually stopped simply because the whole thing felt boring at the time because I was learning it all by my self and couldn't find a way to motivation myself.

Funny enough, I wouldn't need motivation if, rather than learning how to design, I was hanging out with friends and going to parties, because to me, those are fun stuff to do, stuff that I would be willing to do without anyone motivating me or trying to inspire me into doing it.

This is why when embarking on things like this that could benefit you during the long run, the only motivation you need is yourself and the goals you're trying to achieve, because trying to focus on something else (other than yourself) could end up not being as effective as you want it to be and then you end up not seeing that task through.

Funny enough, what motivated today's blog isn't any of this, but the fact that I had formed an habit of always borrowing airtime from network providers, something I dispised in the past but due to a few moment of me being broke, I found myself getting used to it to an extent where even if I had money to buy airtime for myself, I would rather borrow.

It was getting so bad, that I had to give myself a wake up call and forcefully stop that habit, because I knew that no matter how comfortable being able to borrow anytime felt, it wasn't an habit that I wanted to encourage within myself because all it takes is one wrong decision, and then I will find myself not only borrowing airtime, but borrowing money from these loan apps too.
