Food for Thoughts

It's no news that the power supply issue in my country is nothing to write home about, but occasionally, we do get surprised by these power companies and get an uninterrupted power supply for a couple of hours.

It's been like that for some days here now, which obviously is a good thing for the majority of us around. But every time there is a power supply, I always notice the gloomy face a guy who owns a shop down the street usually has, and this is because his entire business hinges on us not having a power supply.

In his shop, he runs this business where he helps people to charge their gadgets for a fee. So rather than buy petrol to put in your generator, you can always pay him a tiny amount for him to charge those gadgets/appliances for you. Unfortunately for him, when there's a power supply, he often gets no customers because everyone is at home charging their stuff themselves.

So a good day at work for him is a day when there's totally no power supply, while a bad day at work is a day when we get uninterrupted power supply.

Today, I and my friend were talking about how sometimes, the reason it might look like our prayers aren't getting answered isn't because God isn't listening, but because there is someone somewhere praying to the same God for the exact opposite of what you're praying for.

Because while we're praying for a steady power supply, the guy who has a shop down the street and the generator mechanic are both praying that we don't get any power for the next month, just so that they can make some money for themselves to eat.

The entire thing made me realize why it will be impossible for God to grant all of our wishes, because even if God wants to do that, it might just be impossible, especially when the prayers of two people cancel each other out because they're both praying to God to do the same thing but in opposite directions.

Maybe, maybe this is why some of our prayers don't get answered.
