Everyone's Business

In my post yesterday I brushed through the topic of my neighbor getting robbed in broad daylight. Well today, I've decided to tell you guys in details what happened.

Well according to her (the victim of the robbery), her boss, a lecturer in my school had called her to his office early that morning and had given her the sum of thirty thousand naira (that's almost 50 dollars) to help him get some foodstuff in the market.

She had collected the money and immediately got into a commercial vehicle to the market only for her to be stopped by three random men. One had a concealed gun which he was covering with his shirt while another had a knife with him then the third person was the one searching her and taking every valuable thing she had on her, including the money and her phone.

How she got home was a miracle because she wasn't with any cash and had to beg strangers to help her with some money. The scary thing about this whole story was that she said while this men were taking everything she had on her, they were people walking by who saw everything but nobody came to her rescue. Probably because they were too scared to avoid getting shot or they were all used to things like this happening so they were just minding their business.

I've asked myself if I was in such a position, what would I do. "Would I scream or try to run away from them?" I asked myself but then I came to the conclusion that I just might end up doing the same thing my neighbor did, comply. Because if I was to get shot or stabbed and killed while trying to run away, what everyone will say was that if I had known, I would have just given them what they wanted and walked away with my life.

At the end of the day, I learnt two very important lessons from everything that happened that day, one being to never go to the market with my phone and the second is to always make sure there is no joy on my face while walking through the market because before these criminals attack, they will first of all access you with their eyes and if they notice that you've got no joy on your face, they will look for someone else to rob.
