Every man For Himself

If there's one thing I've come to believe, it is that every thing that happens to you, has a lesson to be learnt from it. Sometimes, you just have to look a little bit deeper, because it's not always clear for us to see at first.

And if there's one thing I've learnt today, it is that most people wouldn't care about whatever it is that might be happening to you, unless it also affects them in some way. And sadly, this is just the human nature of doing things, and even I is guilty of this same thing.

Earlier today, we had power supply but it turned out that the second floor of my hostel, which also happens to be the floor I stay on, doesn't have power. Apparently, one of the wires at the junction box had gone bad and that wire was the wire that was connected to my floor, meaning that every other floor at the hostel had power, except mine.

And due to the fact that it only affected one floor, no one in the rest of the building cared about it, not even the hostel caretaker whose job is to care for the entire hostel. Apparently, if it doesn't affect them, then it's none of their business.

Now while this might make sense from the point of view of the people who weren't affected, it surely doesn't make sense from my point of view, and that is definitely because I'm one of the people affected by it.

Funny enough, rules like this never affects just one person, because all it takes is time, time for something else to get bad somewhere else in the building where it wouldn't affect me and then the table would turn....and I will go from being the guy who hated the rules, to being the guy who's glad that such a rule exists..

Anyways, we're currently doing a little bit of contribution on my floor to get the issue fixed, luckily for us it's not something that will cost much to repair. And if there's one thing I know for sure, it is that we can't wait for something else to get spoilt some other place that doesn't affect us.
