The Nigerian Educational system can be described with one word, Trash.

Some of you might feel like I’m exaggerating and maybe I am but forgive me, I am a Nigerian student who is tired of the way everything is being handled over here. I’m going to give you guys some reasons why I say that the education system is messed up over here.

Number one reason would of course be the strike. Universities go on strike more than I attend lectures. It’s almost as if these lecturers just get fed up of teaching and the next thing we know, they’re requesting for some huge amount of money from the government and going on an indefinite strike. Unless you attend a private university which is very very expensive, there is no way anyone studying a four year course will finish it in four years, it’s not done here, it has to be in six or seven years time.

Another thing will be the old lecturers who can barely speak out for anyone to hear them properly and the old curriculum they keep teaching. The world as we know it has advanced and these days there are a lot of new discoveries everyday, yet these people keep on teaching what they themselves were taught when they were in school.

I attended lectures today and this particular lecturer was just murmuring words that only he himself could hear. He was an old man who obviously was no longer in a position to teach but yet there he was with his glasses, murmuring words to us while we all pretended to be focused on whatever it was he was saying.

The last thing on my list today is corruption. It’s no news that if you’re not financially strong to an extent, it will be very difficult for you to graduate. Lecturers these days no longer hide the fact that they take bribes from students in other to pass them. It’s like the norm now and everyone is doing it so no big deal. A few of these lecturers has been caught and disgraced but the whole thing doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

No wonder everyone now wants to become a lecturer. Even those who wanted to be doctors when they were kids, the moment they see the amount these lecturers make illegally, they all automatically want to change their career.

The Nigerian education system has a long way to go but I know we will get there someday, I just have to focus on graduating first before thinking about any of that.

P.S : The universities are currently on strike.

Great post, I will love to say this education in this country is a goof and am not even exaggerating. Because when you look deep you would see that even the illiterate are the one's making the money because they have a business. Education doesn't mean you will make it in life it just helps to enlighten your brain.

Lol, gone are the days where you need to be a graduate to get a good job. These days, the skill is all that is needed.

I know guys working from home that make thousands of dollars in a month from ui/ux designs.

They don’t teach that in school over here.

The system is messed up.
I was supposed to graduate from school since 2019 I wasn't bothered because I understand the system, now I have graduated and am supposed to go for service since last year but here because of Assu strike and other internal issues.
My mates and I have to pay some amount of money just to get our result approved by the Senate.
The result where not even worked on till we paid the money.
You can imagine such level of corruption.
If not that some persons understand how this things works i would be looked at like someone who have extra year😂😂😂😂
