Doing A Good Thing For The Wrong Reasons

I had woken up today feeling a bit tired and this was because I had spent the whole night trying to mentally prepare myself for today. For the first time in a month I finally decided it was time for me to resume lectures. I had been extremely busy this past month handling my project and trying to construct all we were asked to construct and all that had prevented me from going to class for the past one month since its resumption.

I eventually got to school today only to find the whole place almost empty. It was almost as if everyone had a meeting and decided that school was no longer important anymore, so now they're all somewhere doing whatever.

Even my two hours class that I had by 12pm ended up lasting for only an hour before the lecturer asked us to leave because he too wasn't feeling motivated and probably didn't want to teach too much and then have to revisit the same topic next week when the numbers of students increases.

Now one may ask that what is the cause of the decline in students coming to school and trust me when I say the answer is pretty simple, it's no other reason but money. Unlike the previous generation who had two choices, either they agreed to go to school or to go hustle and be rich, and then they focus on whatever decision they take.

That is if they agree to go to school, they focus on school and make sure they are successful in it and those who go for business or hustling also do the same, unlike my generation where the majority of us do both at once. And the reason for this is because only few people now come to school because they actually want to study, the rest just agree to go to school for silly reasons.

It could be because their parents are forcing them to, or because their friends are in school so they don't want to feel left out. But one main reason that I've come to realize makes a lot of people want to come to school is the freedom they get when they're here. A lot of them spend their lives being under lock and key by their parents so they see going to school as their only way out. So they're basically doing a good thing for the wrong reasons.

And then when they eventually get to school, they hardly go for lectures and would prefer sitting at home all day, while the business-minded ones who in the days of our father would have chosen to hustle rather than go to school but because they don't want to feel left out now, they would go to work all day everyday and only come to school when it's time for tests and exams.

And if you ask me, I really don't blame them because our educational system actually encourages them to do these things. If there were no bribery and corruption in the educational sector, students who don't have a clue as to what is going on in school won't be able to pass and if they don't pass, they would end up dropping out.

Unfortunately that doesn't happen here because all you need is a little bit of cash and you're good to go.
