The story I’m about to tell is one that I probably will not forget even though it happened to me many many years ago when I was about five years old or thereabout. My memory about the whole thing might be a little bit fuzzy but I still remember how terrified I was and how hard my heart was beating against my chest that day.
Over here, we believe that if a dog is running towards you and you stand your ground and don’t run, it will stop and go somewhere else. That might be true but unfortunately not everyone have that strong heart to stand and not run when a dangerous looking dog is seriously running towards you.
Like I said, I was still a kid at the time and if my memory serves me right, I and my siblings and my mom were on our way to church when all of a sudden this dog that looked like a wolf to me broke out of nowhere and then the next thing I knew, it was running towards me. My mom held my hand and my siblings held theirs and with the way they stood, they had no plans of running to safety, they were going to face the danger head on, a very dumb plan to me, so I did what my five year old brain told me to do, I broke free from my mom’s grip and ran. If they all want to die, then they’re free to do so but there wasn’t anyway on earth they were taking me with them.
My run must have caught the attention of the dog because now it was no longer running towards where my mom and siblings stood, it was coming after me. Like I said, I still remember how hard my heart was beating against my chest as I ran but then something happened, I missed my step and fell.
This obviously was the time I was going to meet Jesus in heaven because there was no doubt that dog was going to tear me to pieces but then the most unexpected thing happened. The moment I fell, the dog stopped running towards me and ran away. It was as if it decided I wasn’t worth it’s time anymore and it just ran off, disappointed at the fact that I couldn’t give it a good run.
The fall had damaged my clothes and mom had no other choice but to take me back home to change. That day is probably one of those days I will never forget, the day I first got chased by a dog.
