I lost a friend to the cold hands of death today.

One thing I’ve noticed in this present generation (especially in my country Nigeria) is that everyone now thinks being rude is the new cool. You see people tweeting about how they were cruel to someone because of something the person did to them in the past and you go to the comment section hoping to see someone saying something reasonable only to see more youths encouraging him or her.

It has gotten so bad that presently in the country, the most popular meme is the “Violence” meme which basically is saying that there’s no room for peace, only violence.

I know to some of us it’s all just cruise and fun but there are people out there who really take social media seriously and tries to imitate those things they’ve seen online in real life. It’s nobody’s fault but then imagine if instead of the violence related topic, we promote more things that has to do with people being kind to other people. Then if someone tries to do the same thing he or she had seen online, he or she would be showing kindness to someone. It doesn’t even matter if the person is doing it for the likes or whatever, what really matters is that someone has been blessed.

Well, the reason why I started this post with that first sentence, the main reason why I’m writing this post at all is because I just lost a friend. He was someone I haven’t really met in person, an online friend that was more than that to me. He was a really nice friend who had pranked me in the past and we both had a good laugh about it.

We both became friends when we met on a WhatsApp group (the same WhatsApp group where I first heard about Hive) and we had clicked right away. Unfortunately, he was someone who likes to keep things to himself so when he fell ill, he had told no one, not even the other members of the group he was close too.

When I heard the news about his death this evening, I had felt a little bit of guilt inside of me because even though I had an idea that he was kind of going through a rough time (he recently lost his aunt) I never really tried my best to be there for him. I had talked to him when his aunt died but then he wasn’t really responding that well so I had decided to just let him be because I felt he probably needed his space to mourn.

I was wrong.

And now my friend is gone. I hope he does find peace wherever he is.

deep sigh...

It's so absurd how we just assume that some certain people have it better than us. When in reality, they're off their balance in life.

I'm so sorry about your friend.

People just don’t realize how a little bit of kindness can brighten someone’s day.

Thanks for reading.

This is a sad.
Some persons are going through a lot and the best we can do is show we really care and be kind with our words.
But sad to say kindness is so hard to find.
My condolences
