Changing the World
As an African man who has lived in Nigeria all my life, I do know that we have certain customs and traditions that does not support a lot of the things some of the first world countries are currently practising. And I also do agree that some of these customs and traditions are unfair to women but you see, the world is changing and luckily for these women, a lot of these things are changing with it.
Some of us who are traditional men and women may not agree with this change entirely, but sometimes we don't always have to voice out our worries or complain about it, we just have to focus on our household and make sure those change doesn't get in there. Earlier today I was having a conversation with someone about people who smoke and this lady had asked me if I would like to be with a lady who smokes.
Now if this question was thrown at me four, five years ago, my answer would have been direct, No. But you see, I've grown a lot in the last few years and I've come to realize that with different people comes different points of views and that just made me see things a bit differently from where I stood.
I immediately told the lady that I have nothing against people who smokes, but if you happen to be someone important in my life (like my wife or girlfriend) then yes I would have a problem with it and probably walk away from you if you refuse to change.
I realized that it's not my place to tell people what to do with their lives but the moment you become someone important to me, then yes I would be in your business and ask you to quit because at the end of the day, I would be the one crying and suffering the loss if something were to happen to you for smoking. So instead of causing so much pains for me in the future, I'd rather fight with you now and help you end that bad habit because during the long run, you'd find out I was doing both of us a favour.
So I don't have to change the world, I just have to focus on my household and the people around me and try to make my change there because the world is going to remind you how it's not your business what they do, but your family can't say the same because they all know that because y'all are family, then it is your business.

I agree with you. If we care about those we love and everyone does the same then everything will change with time. Everything starts from the house. If every one of the houses remains good the world will be good also. it's a simple logic but the fact is everyone is not capable to do it.
Everyone won't be capable to do it, true.. But we don't need everyone to do it, we just need the majority of people to do it.
If in a room of 100 people, 85 of them are good, then automatically we can say all of them are good because the 85 good people will always overshadow the 15 bad people.
Yes, that's true but in reality, we see 85 of them are bad people and 15 are good which is a matter of concern.
There's a saying "change starts with you".
You are right about focusing on your household, you can start changing the world right in your own family. Gradually, your family interacts with other people and might influence them....change happens bit by bit
