Being Surrounded by Cowards

They say experience is the best teacher, and based off of something I experienced yesterday, I think it's safe to say I've indeed been schooled.

Few days ago, I wrote about a guy whose phone was stolen, well it turned out that the guy who took the phone was our caretaker, the guy who formerly used to be the president of our hostel but got promoted some time last year.

Apparently, he said he had taken the phone to teach the guy a lesson about carelessness. I wasn't around all through yesterday but when I came back home that night and heard that the caretaker was the one who took the phone and he also had willingly returned back the phone after holding it for almost 48 hours, I was furious.

First of all I was mad because for someone in his position, doing something like that was dumb and stupid because he was disrespecting his office and might end up suffering the consequences some other time when people starts to be disrespectful to him because of the silly things he's been doing.

Basically I was upset because being in certain position requires that you respect yourself in order to be respected by others.

Secondly, another reason why the entire thing got me mad was due to the fact that irrespective of him being the caretaker, he had no rights whatsoever to steal someone's phone, hold on to it for almost 48 hours, only to return it and play it off like he did nothing wrong.

So myself (being the secretary of the hostel), along with the current president of the hostel and the chief task force had all walked over to his room and called for an immediate meeting between us... But funny enough, the reason why I'm writing this right now isn't because of what the caretaker did, but what the two other guys I had with me did.

You see, before the three of us had marched over to the caretaker's room to give him a piece of our mind, we had all spoken within ourselves and the guys were as furious as I was about the whole thing, so when we were marching over to the caretaker's room, I had thought the three of us had some sort of equal anger about the entire issue, but the moment I got there, it was a completely different case.

It turned out that the two guys I had with me were the kind of people that would motivate you to take certain risks, only for you to find out that they aren't taking the same risk as you. They will motivate you to get into a fight, only for you to turn back and find out you're all alone in that fight and they're no where to be found.

The moment we got to the caretaker's door, their demeanor changed from being upset to them trying to reason with the caretaker. That infuriated me more and I had immediately called them out for their cowardice right in front of the caretaker, reminding them that trying to reason with the man wasn't the plan from the getgo.

Experiencing that whole thing though, sure thought me a lesson, a lesson not to make a move based off of the fact that someone is motivating me or pushing me to do it unless it's something I really want to do and can do alone... That way, I wouldn't be bothered when I look back and realize that they've left me and it's just me.

I think the caretaker don't have the right to teach lesson to anyone and he should be punished for him action. He should know his place before taking any action.

That was the same thing I said too but the guy whose phone was stolen was far more excited that he had gotten his phone back than trying to punish the caretaker for taking it in the first place.
