A Wild Sunday
Something happened yesterday that could have escalated to something a lot worse but thank God it didn't.
My hostel had planned this football match with another hostel down the same street and we both had agreed to play the match yesterday being Sunday. We all had gotten up as early as 6am to prepare for the match and by the time it was 7am, we were already on our way to school field.
We got to the field and both parties were there, so the match started. By the time we were getting to the end of the match, we were winning the opponent 6:1. Unbeknownst to us, they were beginning to get angry probably because the fans outside were laughing and making fun of them everytime we scored a goal.
Well, fast forward to the last five minutes of the game and someone from the other team had tried to score by firing a shot at our goalkeeper, a shot the goalkeeper had stopped. But for some reason, the player who fired the shot had felt that he could still put the ball in, so he had raised up his leg and tried to forcefully kick it away from the goalkeeper's hand.. That was where all hell broke loose.
Our goalkeeper had gotten upset and raised his hand, his fist already balled up in an attempt to hit the player, but even before he could land any blow, about four players from the opponent sides were on him. And before we knew it, everyone started fighting.
It all happened so fast and I remember being confused at first, before eventually running towards our goalkeeper to help get the four guys off of him. To me, even though I felt our goalkeeper was wrong for raising his fist, I felt the opposition really wanted that fight because they already were boiling up and just needed something, anything to help them blow off some steam.
By the time we were done breaking up the fight, someone had already sustained a major injury just slightly about his eyes. His entire face was covered in blood and we clearly had to rush him to somewhere where he received medical assistance.
The whole thing was crazy but eventually, we got it all settled up by getting a bottle of whiskey and taking it over to the other guys hostel as a sign of peace, because the last thing any of us wanted was having to look over our shoulders everytime we walked past our own street.
