A Silly Post

When I saw today's contest topic from the Hive Learners community, my first thought had been to skip it because I felt like the one thing I had in mind to write about was really silly, but surprisingly, I have decided to go ahead and tell you guys about it. And to some of you in different countries, this whole post might feel a bit confusing to you all but trust me when I say that the Nigerians here know fully well what I'm talking about.

If you're a Nigerian, then you probably know about the famous pure water. Pure water is basically water being sold in a sachet nylon for a really cheap price and it's very famous in this part of the world. All my life, I grew up drinking pure water and at first I didn't really think much about it because it basically was all I knew (every other type of drinking water was expensive) but then the older I got, the more I realized that maybe drinking those sachet water wasn't exactly as safe as I had thought.

I remember this one time I was watching the news and the government had sent some of its agents to a company where these sachet water were being produced and they ended up seeing all kind of unhygienic stuff in it. I had seen that news years ago and for some reason it just never left my mind.

So when I got older and started making my own money, I made a promise to myself never to go back to drinking pure water anymore but instead only drink plastic water and this was because I believed that due to the fact that plastic waters were more expensive and it's probably what the rich people in the country drink, that the producers tend to be more careful when purifying the water before packaging it. I remember that at first I had thought that buying plastic water (otherwise known as bottle water) was going to be like a one time thing but then I found myself just going on and on and it just got to a stage where I sort of made a vow to myself never to go back to buying pure water.

I told myself that the day I go back to buying pure water will be the day I will be admitting to myself that I wasn't just broke but I was poor and being someone who grew up in a place where superstition thrive, I do believe that going back to buying pure water would really make me go poor, so no matter the condition I find myself, I always make sure that I have enough money to buy at least one pack of bottle money to keep at home.

It's something that I probably will do even if I have no money for food because it just feels like a covenant I made between myself and God and I know it's really really silly, but I choose to believe it and for some reason, it has been working for me. It's been months now (if not more than a year) that I last tasted sachet water but has instead made sure to always have plastic bottled water at home.

Wowww, see rich kid naw🤑
Prayzz, hehehe...I think your decision isn't silly, you are just playing safe. Have you wondered why many Nigerians suffers from typhoid fever every now and then? The reason is not far fetched. Some of the typhoid fever we experience comes from the bad satchet water we consume.

I know of a water factory not far from my home and they stopped treating their water very well after getting their NAFDAC NUMBER. If you drink the water, you will notice the iron content in it. Currently, I am working on owning a pure water factory, bottled water inclusive and one of my top priority is to have a perfect treated water. I wouldn't want to be the reason why someone should fall sick due to bad water consumption.

I really hope you continue to afford buying bottled water for yourself. It's the best for anyone who can afford it. I once tried but due to my large family, I couldn't continue. So currently, we use both in my home.

The many stories I've heard about some of this pure water factory is really scary and I wonder how many of us are still alive because these factories never get monitored.. I hope you do get to own your factory too and run it well like you said.

It was very unique in my opinion and it was beyond my expectation. I never heard anytime from anyone who is going to buy pure water bottles when facing financial problems. More importantly, we can get free water naturally.
