A Day In the Life

Welcome to the life of a graduate who's just getting used to not having anything to do with himself, at least for the next one month.

Signs of the holiday season is starting to become pretty obvious over here. A lot of people spent the better part of today packing their bags and travelling down to their villages or where ever they plan on spending the holidays.

Unfortunately, I can't do any of that because unlike the rest of the students who aren't final year students, I have a project defense that is scheduled to take place just four days before Christmas and seeing how close the date is to Christmas, travelling would no longer be an option because it is always advisable to hang around school after your project defense just in case any issues arises, then you would be available to sort it out yourself.

But the good news is that until the day of the defense, I have all the free time in the world and that was why my friends and I had decided to give swimming another go again today (about seven days I had written a blog talking about how my friend almost drowned). Well actually, they gave swimming another go because as a very young man who has huge plans for his future and almost witnessed someone drown exactly seven days ago, I had placed all of my swimming plans on hold, at least until next year.

Surprisingly, the same guy who almost lost his life about a week ago was the first one amongst us to get into the pool today. For a minute it felt like he had forgotten about the whole ordeal that happened a week ago but then I noticed he wasn't exactly going deep into the pool like he did the last time but was mainly just staying at the shallow part of the pool, the one place he knows he can't drown.

I was impressed by him though because it just goes to show how serious he is about learning to swim, although we all know he's going about it the wrong way because he has no one giving him instructions on what to do. But the fact that he's trying and putting in efforts just shows how determined he is about learning.

Anyways, I spent the better part of my time watching them and taking pictures of them until late in the evening when it was finally time for us to go back home. And that basically was the only thing I did today and as usual, I'm happy I'm getting to go out more and just have fun with all of these guys because a lot of us would be going our separate ways real soon.

Your real holiday will start after your defense. So start planning for it. I think still there will be something for you to do.
It's good to hear that your friend is dedicated to learning how to swim and it's needed. I think you can also try to learn to swim. It's not so difficult either. Just take the first step.

As for me, my first step would be motivating myself to even get into the the water. I have someone who promises to teach me but I'm scared.
