Why the Electric Vehicle transition fails in the EU!

Audi A6 e-tron

Yesterday, I saw an advertisement on TV from Audi about the all new full electric Audi A6, always a car I found a beauty. And of course a luxury car from the higher segment.
The ad said the car had a range of 726 kilometres, and loads of loading space, combined with a magnificent interiour and great performance and driving feeling. For which Audi has been known for decades.

So, I decided to check it out, and I must say, I wasn't surprised at all, because I was expecting it. The car, just the basic version costs you already a whopping 80000 EUR, without any options. So, if you want some options, and a good multimedia system, you are heading near a 95000 EUR. Top notch, you will pay 110000 EUR. For a car, that in reality only will reach 500 kilometres with a fully loaded battery.

The good old Diesels

If you compare that with the prices of a decently equipped diesel version you would have bought, say 6 years ago, you would have paid 55 to 60000 EUR. For a car that would bring you from Belgium to Spain on a fully loaded tank.

The good old Diesels are sadly pushed out of the market because of ridiculous taxes on them. Thank you for that, European Green Deal. So people need to buy electric vehicles instead, but for the same type of car they pay almost 80 % more... That is just insanity. Even subsidizing it all won't help the people. Nobody with a normal salary is willing to pay 100000 EUR for a car...

The EV's are stuffed down our throats, but no European car manufacterer can make one for a decent price... So the Chinese and Tesla are flooding us with cheaper electric cars, but for that Europe now has tariffs, so we are back to square one. They stay expensive!

And more importantly, the one industry that still was a flagship of Europe, the Automotive industry is getting hit in the gut. Share prices tank, and nobody is buying their cars anymore...

Europe is not ready for the Electric Vehicle, at least not in this way.

Sincerely,

Europe is killing its biggest industry and it simply doesn't realize that EVs are not better for the everyday man than ICE. They're designed just to widen the gap between the rich and the poor.
