Monetization on Twitter/X, a missed chance

Only for the big guns

Since June of this year, there is official monetization on X, formerly known as Twitter. But most have gotten their first payments in September, due to hiccups in the program.

The monetization is an ad revenue share, from the views od ads your posts generate. Wow, one would think. Finally a social medium that rewards its users.
But, think again.

  • First of all, the only people that can generate income are the premium users. The ones with the blue marks next to their name, that pay 8 dollars per month for that mark. That is for me a huge bummer. And the biggest mistake Elon could have made.

  • Second requirement is, you have to have at least 500 followers to be eligible for monetization. This bothers me least, but I don’t see the value in this requirement.

  • Third and most important one, your posts must have generated at least 5 million impressions with premium members in the last 3 months. This is a huge number, especially if you know that there are only 1 million premium members on X at this moment.

This all put together shows that X is following the same path as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc… Only the big accounts can earn money. And it is very hard to become monetized on the platform. Another case of the rich getting richer, and you know the rest…

I will stay on Hive!

Sincerely,

Pele23

Hive is here to serve all. I would still try the x blue mark too if I see an opportunity to promote Hive there

It's good for people who had a lot of followers on Twitter now they can earn some money from X.

This is why Hive is for the little guys as well as it is for deplatformed celebrities as well. Hopefully the second category will at some point realize that WEB2 will never match WEB3 no matter the redesign and all this crap...

The fact that only big accounts are able to join the program and get rewarded is a red flag for me. It's like the haves and the have nots system where all the focus is on the haves.
