Is it possible to become a Hive Orca (or even a Whale) without investing money?
Becoming an Orca is my goal, and I will achieve it
At this time, I have just a little more of 16100 HP. An Orca is officially someone with 50k HP, so there is still a long way to go for me. But I am sure I will achieve it. It is just going to take some time. But let me tell you a little about me journey here.
I started on Steemit on August 1st of 2017, without investing a single penny. I just started posting, and in the beginning those posts were probably all over the place, but along the way, I found my route and posted about my interest field. Crypto, sports, economy, photography, and every now and then a satirical post. My growth was quite slow, but eventually I got my first 100 SP, and started to get some curation rewards too. I always powered up, all the liquid Steem and SBD and now Hive and HBD I received, I converted to SP and HP. When the communities came, I profited from that as well, as I sell some of my Hive Engine earnings for Hive. But I make sure I get decent curation rewards from some communities too, like Sportstalk, Leofinance, Proofofbrain, Ash, Archon, Weedcash, etc... So, of course I don't sell it all, just some of it, the rest I power up, to receive even more curation rewards.
I also took the side of Hive when the split off happened. After a few months, when the exchange rate felt good, I sold my liquid Steem for Hive. I did the same with Blurt. And now, here we are 16k HP later in four years of blogging, and learning a lot about lots of communities and especially crypto.
So, to answer the question, is it possible to become an Orca without investing money? I say it is, but it is going to take time and dedication, but it is definitely possible, and with some wise choices, you can definitely make it.
Becoming a whale is a different story. For that, you need 500k HP, I believe that is quite the challenge, and demands the support of some other whales and orcas to achieve that kind of status. But who knows? Maybe you can prove it is possible?

I admire your hard work. In my case, most of my growth has been from my own investing. Even so, it is not even 10,000 Hive in total with my separate accounts. You have done well.

Ok! Well, if we get to 50k HP, that other 4k won't be a problem, I guess! ;-)
I am dreaming to become as well as work and my journey looks similar to yours. I am standing at 7K Hive Power and I am a happy Dolphin and was hoping to close the year at 10K, but is hard to get there. Still, that's my target, and looking to reach it in the near future.
