Fiscal rules force me to buy a new car, give your opinion…

Fiscal rules make hybrid or electric cars mandatory

My current car has had its best days and has almost 160000 kilometres. I need a new car pretty soon, an normal combustion engines are losing their tax deductibility for self employed people.
Because of environmental rules, as of now your car can only spill out 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer, or less, to be 100 % tax deductible.
But for me electric cars still have a too small range to be compatible with my job. So the only option is hybrid.

Now I am doubting between two cars:

The Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid

And the Mercedes C 300 Diesel hybrid:

The VW has more trunk space and the Mercedes has a better resell value… Hard choice, feel free to give your opinion!

Sincerely,

If you don't plan on going on country roads too much, I'd take the Merc...

Looked at the Tiguan myself recently. Why buy new and not from a decent repo place through auction? Plenty of cars around especially now with the economy being so bad.

I am buying second hand, but the market is a bit overheated in Belgium right now. Because of the long wait for new cars, everyone is jumping on the nearly new cars

Why not go full electric? A hybrid is a compromise, so I think is better to go from the gecko to full electric.

I said it, the range of the current electric cars is not compatible with my job

How many km do you drive on a typical day? There must be a Tesla or Korean EV that fits your needs...

Sometimes almost 500 per day…

That's a lot. If you can charge at the external location it's doable though. Maybe you can get a loaner for a week to experience whether a full EV can work for you?

I'd always go for one that offers an option to drive electric only for at least 50 km. I assume however both don't. Or am y wrong?

They both do approximately 50 km full electric… no real difference

Well, that's better than I expected. Good enough for the usual trips around the house at least

You will have more bells and whistles in the VW because you are paying for brand Merc.
