Farmer protests shut down Brussels, and they are damn right!

Nitrogen

Today, farmers from all over Belgium jumped into their tractors and drove to the capitol city, Brussels, to protest against a new plan the Belgian government is contemplating.
It is all about nitrogen, and the amount of nitrogen that is expelled today by farms. And this will become extremely limited in the future.

The plan by the government isn't complete yet, and that is why the farmers chose today to protest, in hopes of influencing the plan. Because, a rough version of it already came out. And it is devastating for most farmers in Belgium. It essentially says that a lot of them will have to close shop. The amount of nitrogen that can be expelled in the future will be 50 times lower than the number is today. So for most farmers with cows, pigs, chicken, and other cattle, it will be almost impossible to follow these terms. So, they are out of a job, in reality.

Social bloodbath

Belgium has a lot of farmers, but most of them are small farms. Which makes this a social bloodbath if it comes true. This will effect tens of thousands of people, that will be suddenly out of job, and are mostly self employed. So there is no rescue net for them. Except selling their farm, probably at bottom prices.

All of this is part of the big European Green Deal, which is in my opinion complete insanity.
No more combustion engines in cars by 2035? The number of farms decimated? All on this small piece of land here in Western Europe, while the rest of the world will keep on doing what they were doing.
That is in my opinion, economic suicide for this continent. We are catapulting ourselves back to the third world with this Green Deal.

Ursula Van Der Leyen and Frans Timmermans have blood on their hands, and a lot of it!

Sincerely,

They will end up importing meat and food from South America who are busy chopping down the Amazon rain forest. This is so absurd and the farmers need to fight and win.

Yep, that’s indeed what is wrong about all of this. The EU is fucked with these leaders!

The government should think about the farmers, if they don't , many will be jobless and Country can have a shortage of vegetables.

The politicians are out of their minds. None of it makes economic sense. If they wanted to outlaw the sale of gas cars then it would still give people time but I don't see how it makes sense economically for a lot of people.

This reminds me of the truckers convoy in Canada and I hope the government doesn't go crazy.
