Thousand twists

Tonight was final night in the Jupiler Pro League. Three clubs still could become champions. Antwerp, Union Saint-Gilloise and Genk. Antwerp played away in Genk, Genk needed to win and do better than Union to become champions. Union needed to win against Club Brugge at home and do better than Antwerp. Antwerp was always champion if they won.

An interesting night of football was awaiting us.
Just before half-time Genk scored the 1-0 and Union vs Club Brugge was still 0-0. At that point Genk is champion.

But just around 60 minute mark, Union scored their 1-0, and they were the virtual champions. Antwerp didn’t give up and scored the 1-1 in the 70th minute. This still wasn’t enough fot them but it gave them hope again.
But Genk didn’t give up either. They scored the 2-1 in the 80th minute by skipper Bryan Heynen. Union still virtual champions.

But then Hitchcock came in, and let Club Bugge score 1-1 in the 90th minute. Genk were virtually champion again. Brugge even scored two more goals in Brussels, so Union was out of the picture.

In Genk, Antwerp started a desperate offensive in stoppage time. And the miracle happened. In the 94th minute, former Ajax and Tottenham player scored a massive screamer into the top left corner…
2-2 and Antwerp champios of Belgium.

An incredible scenario that was epic to watch!
