1,5 million EUR subsidies for … hamsters in Belgium

Over subsidised country

Over 60 billion EUR subsidies are given away in Belgium to numerous NGO’s, companies, parties, people, etc… One reason better than the other.

But this one really blew my mind. Every year 1,5 million EUR subsidies are paid out to nature preservation in Belgium, to save a few hundred of indigenous hamsters.

For real, 1,5 million EUR for hamsters!

We have gone completely mad in Belgium!

This raises a crucial question: Is this €1.5 million about saving hamsters, or about soothing our collective conscience?

Modern man prefers to save symbols rather than confront hard realities.
