Sunset around the world Contest Nov#3
Hello to the whole community and thank you for the possibility of participating in this contest. Rapa Nui, is the native name of the remote volcanic island, which we know as Easter Island. I visited the island a few years ago and it is very exciting to visit it. Moai are found throughout the island, they are silent witnesses of the ancient civilization that once arrived from Polynesia. All photos are my property. The data on Easter Island were taken from Wikipedia.
This is my participation: best sunset on Easter Island is at “Ahu Tahai”.
Politically it belongs to Chile, to the Valparaíso region. Geographically located in Polynesia, Oceania, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
It is called "ahu" to the platform of stones that form the base where the moai are located.
It is a ceremonial place, where ancestors were worshiped.
The "Ahu Tahai" is a complex made up of three ahu: Ko Te Riku, Tahai, and Vai Ure.
They say that the "Rapanui" people would have come from a mythical Polynesian island, guided by "Hotu Matu'a", their first king.
Every evening, tourists gather to enjoy the sun at Ahu Tahai.
We arrived early to choose a good place to sit and set up our cameras.
It was a magical afternoon, I hope that is reflected in the photos.
