Homenaje a mis mujeres en su día - Tribute to my women on their day

El 8 de marzo se conmemora el día internacional de la mujer, día en el que agasajamos a nuestras mujeres con flores, bombones y quizá algún chocolate. Lejos de ser un día de festejos, este debería ser un día de reflexión y aprendizaje.

8 March is International Women's Day, a day on which we celebrate our women with flowers, chocolates and perhaps some chocolate. Far from being a day of celebration, this should be a day of reflection and learning.

Nuestro comienzo en esta vida está fuertemente marcado por la presencia de una mujer. Ellas nos cobijan en su vientre durante 9 largos meses. Una vez que dan a luz dependemos totalmente de ellas y son ellas quienes saben exactamente lo que necesitamos. Durante nuestros primeros años nuestras vidas depende casi exclusivamente de ellas

Our beginning in life is strongly marked by the presence of a woman. They shelter us in their womb for 9 long months. Once they give birth we are totally dependent on them and it is they who know exactly what we need. During our first years our lives depend almost exclusively on them.

Desde mi punto de vista el día de la mujer, no debería ser un día en particular sino que debería ser todos los días del año, ya que de nada vale acordarnos un solo día al año si durante los 365 días restantes nos dedicamos a no reconocerlas con iguales derechos que los hombres. Si bien son muchos los logros que se han alcanzado, aún queda mucho por avanzar y esa no debe ser una lucha únicamente de las mujeres, sino también de los hombres.

From my point of view, women's day should not be a particular day but should be every day of the year, because there is no point in remembering just one day a year if during the remaining 365 days we do not recognise women as having equal rights with men. Although much has been achieved, there is still a long way to go and this should not only be a struggle for women, but also for men.

Para ello debemos tener en claro que cada uno de nosotros salimos del vientre de una mujer, que decidió llevarnos en su vientre por 40 semanas, con amor y valentía, más allá de sus miedos y temores.

For this we must be clear that each of us came out of the womb of a woman, who decided to carry us in her womb for 40 weeks, with love and courage, beyond her fears and apprehensions.

El día de hoy, es un día en que se conmemora un hecho lamentable ocurrido el 8 de marzo del año 1908. Este 8 de marzo de hace más de 110 años atrás marca un punto de partida, un punto de inflexión en la lucha de las mujeres de todo el mundo en su lucha por la profunda desigualdad de género, la cual no se ha podido revertir totalmente más de 100 años después y que recobraría fuerza e importancia a medida que han ido pasando los años.

Today is a day that commemorates an unfortunate event that took place on 8 March 1908. This 8th March more than 110 years ago marks a starting point, a turning point in the struggle of women all over the world in their fight against the profound gender inequality, which has not been fully reversed more than 100 years later and which has regained strength and importance as the years have gone by.

Recordemos que el 8 de marzo del año 1908, 129 mujeres murieron en un incendio de una fábrica de Nueva York, mientras mantenían una huelga en su lugar de trabajo. El motivo de la huelga era la reducción de la jornada de trabajo y una equiparación del salario con el de los hombres que realizaban las mismas actividades que ellas. Ante la actitud de las trabajadoras el dueño ordenó cerrar las puertas de la fábrica para intentar lograr que las mujeres dejasen sin efecto la huelga, pero el resultado fue muy lamentable ya que 129 mujeres murieron a causa de un incendio en el interior de la fábrica.

On 8 March 1908, 129 women died in a factory fire in New York while on strike at their workplace. The reason for the strike was the reduction of the working day and the equalisation of wages with those of the men who carried out the same activities as them. Faced with the attitude of the workers, the owner ordered the doors of the factory to be closed in an attempt to get the women to stop the strike, but the result was very unfortunate, as 129 women died in a fire inside the factory.

This led to a large number of women organising around the world to claim their rights and above all to achieve gender equality, which marked the starting point of a great movement that is gaining strength day by day.

Esto llevó a que gran cantidad de mujeres se organicen alrededor del mundo en busca de revindicar sus derechos y sobre todo para lograr igualdad de género, lo cual marcó el punto de partida de un gran movimiento que día a día toma mayor fuerza.

This led to a large number of women organising around the world to claim their rights and above all to achieve gender equality, which marked the starting point of a great movement that is gaining strength day by day.

En lo personal creo que pasaran varios años más para lograr la tan ansiada igualdad de género. Es una lucha que deberá darse de a poco ya que no es sencillo romper con un modelo tan profundamente arraigado como el machismo.

Personally, I believe that it will take several more years to achieve the longed-for gender equality. It is a struggle that will have to be fought little by little, as it is not easy to break with such a deeply rooted model as machismo.
