As a seamstress, I've come to learn a lot from others mistake. And here are the things I've learnt all along the line :

  1. Use the right needle for the job: Different types of needles are designed for different types of fabrics and sewing techniques. Using the wrong needle can cause problems such as skipped stitches, broken threads, and even damage to your machine.

  2. Choose the right thread: Like needles, different types of thread are best suited for different projects. For example, lightweight fabrics generally require finer threads, while heavier fabrics may require thicker threads.

  3. Start with a good foundation: Before you begin sewing, make sure that your fabric is properly prepared. This may include pre-washing, ironing, or cutting the fabric to size.

  4. Use a good quality seam gauge: A seam gauge is a small, flexible ruler that is used to measure and mark seam allowances. It can be a helpful tool for ensuring that your seam allowances are accurate and consistent.

  5. Practice good sewing habits: This includes things like keeping your machine clean and well-maintained, using proper posture while sewing, and taking regular breaks to avoid fatigue.

  6. Test your stitches: Before you begin a project, it's a good idea to do a test run on a scrap piece of fabric to make sure that your stitches are even and your machine is working properly.

Tailors in this part of the world can use some basic ideas as listed above yo scale through some hurdles as they handles clothes and the likes.
